As part of their current US and World tour, Japanese rock band BABYMETAL
came through Washington DC last week to play in front of a sold-out crowd
at Silver Spring's Fillmore theater. In recent years the band has attracted
legions of fans in and outside of Japan with their unique high-energy style
that combines elements of J-Pop and Heavy Metal. Their current tour
comes after their newest album “Metal Resistance” debuted in the U.S.
Billboard Top 40, the first Japanese album to do so in over 50 years!
"It’s great to see a Japanese band attract so much positive attention overseas,”
remarked the Embassy’s Minster for Communications and Cultural Affairs,
Tamaki Tsukada. “I hope Babymetal continues to find success in the United
States, and that more and more Japanese artists can find their way into
the U.S. spotlight as well!”
